Gudi Padwa Pooja

Importance of Gudi Padwa Puja

Gudi Padwa Puja is done by those Hindus who believe in Goddess Kundalini by hosting Gudi in front of the house to invite the goddess Kundalini. Gudi Padwa Puja is done on the fourth eve of Diwali festival.  Gudi is the bamboo stick and on the top of it inverted pitcher called Lota (in Hindi) is placed which denotes the form of goddess. Yellow coloured silk adornments with garlands of twigs of mango tree and red flowers are also being placed on Gudi.  The Gudi is placed towards the right hand side of the main entrance of house as right side is being considered to be the active part of the soul. The place where Gudi is hosted swastika is being drawn over the place. Gudi Padwa is considered to be very sacred as some of the significant symbol like Shiva Shakti is being associated with it which is invoked while worshipping Gudi with pure and clean soul. This symbol helps the Gudi to accept the divine energies, being emitted from the rising sun.

How to do Gudi Padwa Puja

At the beginning of the day warm water bath needs to be taken then a rangoli on the ground needs to be drawn. The mixture of Haldi and Kumkum needs to be placed in the middle of the Swastika. At the door toran (made up of mango leaves and marigold flowers) is being hanged. The sweet dish generally shrikhand and Prasad is being prepared in the house. Home diya’s are being lighted, god is worshipped and the sweet dish and Prasad is being kept at the feet of god. The New Year Panchang is bought on the day of Gudi Padwa and is placed at the feet of home’s deity. On the next day, water is drunk from the copper pot which was placed at the top of bamboo stick. It is being considered that drinking of water from the pot transmits the prajapati from the Divine of Consciousness.
