Importance of Navratri Pooja
The word Navratri has some meaning in itself as Nav means “nine” and ratri means “Pooja”. People celebrate the Navratri to commemorate the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura. On this day Maa Durga’s various forms are being worshipped with great enthusiasm, but the most prominent forms of Maa Durga that are being worshipped are Maa Durga, Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati. These three goddesses had shared three nights each to destroy the evilness on the earth. People keep fasts for all nine days because every day of Navratri holds special importance in one’s life. In the first three days, Maa Durga is being worshipped to destroy all the negativity that the person is being holding. For the next three days, Maa Lakshmi is being worshipped for the next three days to get bestowed with all her blessings of inexhaustible wealth. The last three days of Navratri are devoted to Maa Saraswati to be bestowed with good knowledge.
How to do Navratri Pooja
The Navratri Pooja is very simple to do at home. Pooja is done every nine days of Navratri in the morning. Dry cow dung and Kapoor are burnt and are used to do Pooja and after the completion of Pooja, the smoke of the residue is moved to all the rooms of the house. On the last two days, small girls are being worshipped by making them eat “Halwa”, “Puri”, “Chana” etc. and when they are completed with their food their feet are being touched and gifts or money are given to them.
Significance of Navratri Pooja
Navratri Pooja has great significance in the life of individuals. On the eighth or ninth day, small girls are being worshipped because they are considered to be the shadow of Goddess Maa Durga. Nine girls are being called at home to worship nine forms of Maa Durga. The feet of girls are washed as it is the symbol of respect to the Goddess and are then made to sit on a pedestal. The girls of smaller ages are being worshipped as they are considered to be the most purest and innocent among all the women.
