Hartalika Teej Pooja is one of the auspicious moments for married and unmarried women in the Hindu religion. The puja is performed to appease Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati for a happy and harmonious married life. Married women observe the puja and fast for the overall well-being of their husbands including health, wealth, and prosperity. Whereas, unmarried women keep this fast and worship Shiva-Parvati to have a handsome and humble husband just like Lord Shiva. The auspicious date falls on the 3rd day (Tritiya) of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month (between August and September) each year.
How to Perform the Hartalika Teej Pooja?
Hartalika Teej Pooja is performed in worshipping Lord Shiva and Parvati together. The devotees make sand idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati and worship the idols in the presence of Pandit ji with Rudrabhishekam, offering flowers, fruits, sweets, Kaath Path, and Arati. The fast starts from the dawn of the Shukla Tritiya and ends at the dawn of Shukla Chaturthi. It is a long 24-hour fast and devotees are not allowed to have even water during the fast.
The Teej pooja is usually performed at the dawn of the Tritiya. However, if by any chance dawn puja is not possible, devotees can perform the puja in Pradosh kaal, the evening. Women should wear fine attire and dress with Solah Singar.
