The Bali earned special favour from Lord Vishnu due to his piousness. He called Lord Vishnu for help in his kingdom, Lord Vishnu went there but Goddess Lakshmi was upset with this departure and so she also went there in disguise. She tied Rakhi on Bali’s wrist and in return she asked that she wanted to be with her husband Lord Vishnu and came out in her real form. Bali gave her sister what she wanted.
King Porus and Alexander’s wife’s story is also popular where Alexander’s’ wife tied Rakhi on Porus’s hand and saved her husband’s life.
Rani Karmavati’s story is also popular where she sent Rakhi to Mughal emperor Himayu to save her dignity.
Raksha Bandhan 2024: Celebration Procedure

Sister prepares a puja thali with diya, kumkum, chaval, sweets and a beautiful Rakhi on this holy day. First she do puja, put tilak on her dear brother’s forehead, then offers him sweets. After all that she ties Rakhi on his right hand’s wrist. She prays for her dear brother’s well- being and flourishing life. Brother gladly do his part also, he gives her promise that he will always protect her from all evil times and also presents her a beautiful gift which brings smile on his lovely sister’s face. Some mantra is chanted by sister when she ties Rakhi on her brother wrist.
“Yeena Badho Bali Raja Daanavendro Mahabala.
Tena Twam Anubadhnaami Rakshe Maa Chala Ma Chala.”
And other one is
“Suraja Sakhan Chodia, Muli Chodia Beej,
Behan Ne Rakhi Baandhi, Bhai Tu Chir Jug Jee.”
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated across the India and in other countries also with some different names and slightly changed rituals but essence of festival remains same.
