The Dattatreya Jayanti Puja is being celebrated in the month of Margashirsha on full moon day. Lord Dattatreya is regarded as the avatar of Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu. He was the son of Maharishi Atri and Anusuya. It has been assumed that Anusuya was performing all the rites and rituals of Pativrata Dharma in a very effective way, because of this goddess Parvati, Saraswati, and Lakshmi was very jealous so they told their husbands Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu to take a test of Pativrata dharma, in which Anusuya have to alms without having any cloth on the body. The three lords satisfied with their wives and so they visit the Anusuya place by having the character of Sanyasi, during this period of time Atri was not there. They asked to Anusuya to offer them alms naked, after hearing this Anusuya became very shocked but she can’t refuse the sages. Anusuya by taking the help of devotion and sincerity she changed the three lords into babies and then offer them alms naked. When Atri came to the place he was very aware with the three lords and at the same time he was also very satisfied with her wife decision. After seeing this respect and trust the three lords blessed the couple with a baby boy, who was the symbol of the three gods. From that day the baby is known as Dattatreya and the birth of the baby is being celebrated as Dattatreya Jayanti.
