Importance of Narasimha Jayanti Puja

As per Puranas, in the month of Vaishakh, lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Narasimha on the day of Chaturdashi.

Hiranyakasipu had obtained a benefit from Brahma that no man or beast, by night or by day and from outside or inside could kill him. Also it was offered that no weapon can kill him. After receiving such boon from Brahma, he started ruling over earth and heaven and declared himself as God and ordered people not to worship Vishnu. He wanted that people should start worshipping him.

But Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakasipu was a great devotee of Vishnu and he disobeyed his father. All people worshipped Hiranyakasipu but his own son worshipped Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakasipu tried to change his son but he failed to do so. Then his Father tried to kill his son but each and every time he tried, his son was escaped from the war of death because of Lord Vishnu blessings.

Every time Hiranyakasipu failed, one day he challenged his son and, said looking to a pillar of stone, then he asked, If Lord Vishnu is universal and present everywhere then he is present in this pillar also? His son, “Prahlad” answered; he is present everywhere, in this stone pillar and even in this rust also. Hearing this sentence, Hiranyaskasipu cut hard on the stone pillar with a sword.

Suddenly, Lord Vishnu appeared from the stone pillar as Narasimha and swings the evil spirit at twilight. Then, Narshimha killed the Hiranyakasipu by keeping him on his lap and with bare hands tearing his heart. By this way, all the boons he got from Brahma also remained the same and he got the result of his evil deeds. That’s why Narasimha puja is performed on this auspicious day of Narsimha Jayanti. This day is celebrated as Narsimha Jayanti because Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Narsimbha to kill the Hiranayakasipu.
