What to do and what not to do during the month of Adhik Maas
Adhik Maas is a month which is filled with dancing, singing, hymns, lyrics and rhymes, poetry, mantra and jaaps, sholka, sacrifices, prayers and gods, rituals, holy bath, visiting holy pilgrimage sites, reciting Holy Scriptures, charity, daan and other good humanitarian work to clear away all the bad deeds and sins of a life. During the month, one must do fast or vrat whilst keeping certain things in check;

You have to keep a total fast or a partial vrat during this month. BhavishyottarPuranasays that vrat of one should begin on the day of the bright fortnight or the shuklapaksha and finish on theKrishnaPaksha or the dark fortnight.
The mind and heart, and also the physical self, during this time should be pure and clean. The follower should not lie during this time, and must keep patience. It is also said that one must not do chit chat during this time, he or she should only think about donation as per his or her capability.
Avoiding negativity and rage is vital; also one must never eat non-vegetarian food. A follower should only think about vrat, pujan, homas, havans and paath.
A follower can even light up a diya at the dawn and dusk time; do pujas of Lord Ganesh, IshthaDevta, One Nakshattara, KulDevta and Pitra’s. Also one must do the theGayatri Mantra, NavGraha Shanti sholka and MahaMrityunjay Mantra jaap during this time.
During the early morning, a follower must recite the Lord Vishnu Sholka and in the evening they can do the Durga and Shiva sholkas. One can even do the Hanuman Chalisa during the evenings.
According to the BhavishyottarPurana; a follower may do vrat and donation on as daily routine. If you believe you cannot do a vrat for a month, then you take a dip during the Brahma Muhurta and pray to God Vishnu and do fast any day.
As per Hemadari, all days during the Adhik Month, a follower must do worshiping of Lord Surya and give charity of grain, ghee and molasses. Reciting and chanting the chapter 15 of Bhagvad Gita is also very profitable in this timeframe.
Devotees and followers must also visit theGovardhan, Mathura, to gain circumambulation (Pradakshina) fromShriGirirajParvat.
According to the Indian Astrology, reciting Vishnu Sahastranaam and Sukta is also profitable. There are some particular rituals which are alsoframed with zodiac sign. So, let’s take a peek at the dos and don’ts which the holder of a particular zodiac should obey by –
Followers from Aries, Leo and Sagittarius – You mustchant the ‘AdityaHaridyaStorta’ and do the Surya Namaskar by giving water to Lord Sun in the morning.
Followers of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces – You must take holy dip in the river Ganga and worship and pray to GodVarun.
In the house of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius – You must chant the Hanuman Chalisa and pray to Lord Hanuman.
People from the house of Scorpio, Virgo and Capricorn – You must meditate and recite jaaps and mantras whilst sitting on an ‘Asana’ on the floor or earth.
All actions of worship, fasting, donating alms, pilgrimage and holy bath give more blessing and benefits to the follower and eliminate all the sins of the previous birth. Followers also do worship of God Vishnu in order to gain freedom from the worldly materialistic dreams and lead themselves towards the path of bliss and content.
God Vishnu illuminates the internal intellect; and if you are in the void of darkness; then it can raze you up from there. He will teach you how to love and give to all your friends and others.
