Chhath Puja 2015: what is Chhath Puja?

Draupadi- The Legend

According to Hindu belief, Draupadi was passionate devotee of God Sun. She pleased Him with her continuous prayers and Sun God gifted her with the unique power. By this power she could cure any deadly disease. Due to this power Draupadi helped Pandavs to regain their kingdom.

Chhath puja also linked with other legends like other Hindu festivals.

Karna- the legend

As per the legend Karna who was the son of Surya, performed the Surya Shashti puja with full devotion and enthusiasm. It is believed the devine power which Karna had, because of the blessing of Sun which he gained after the performing the Chhath puja.these supreme power made Karna great and Valliant warrior.

Nahai Khai- First Day Of Chhath Puja 2015

Bath is the meaning of Nahai and Khai word means is Eat. On the first day of Chhath Puja, devotees take ‘dubki’ and bath in holy River or lake to purify their body and soul from all the sins. After that they worship the lord Sun. Devotees carry the water from lake or river to their homes and they use it in cooking the food item which they offer to Surya Dev.

KharnaSecond Day Of Chhath Puja 2015

On the second day, people observe the full day fast- vrat. During the vrat time, devotees avoid taking water. So the second day- Kharna observe as an anhydrous fast. Devotees accomplished their fast by taking the food after performing evening Surya puja. Devotees share the Prasad among all the people.

Sandhya Argha- Third Day Of Chhath Puja 2015

Sandhya means evening and Arghya means offerings. On the third day of Shashti puja, people prepare different types of food items for offering to God. They offer these foods to Sun when it is setting in evening. This evening time is assumed to best time to take blessings from the God Sun.

Suryodaya Argha- Fourth Day Of Chhath Puja 2015

Suryodaya Argah is the last day of Chhath puja. On this day, people reach to river edge in early morning to offer the prayers to the rising Sun. When devotees accomplish the Surya Argh then they break finish their fast by eating ginger with sugar. The four days Chhath puja festival end with the Suryodaya Argah on last fourth day. In these four days, devotees perform all the rituals and try to please the Lord Sun for getting good life.
