Basant Panchami Festival 2015 date 24 January
Basant Panchami festival is celebrated in the Magh month of Shukla Paksha on the fifth day. In 2015, this festival will be celebrated on 24th January. On the eve of this festival three gods are worshipped so that the blessings can be achieved from them. On this day Goddess Saraswati- the goddess of knowledge, Lord Krishna-Radha and Lord Vishnu are worshipped with yellow flowers, water, lamp and gulaal. For the Bhog also the yellow colored items are being prepared at home like yellow colored Halwa and yellow colored sweet rice. After the Bhog, the prasadam is being distributed among the family members and the relatives so that everyone gets the blessings the goddess.
The festival of Basant Panchami is generally celebrated to seek the blessings of the goddess Saraswati so that the devotee gains the knowledge from the goddess and learn the art of music and scriptures. This day is the birthday of the goddess. Generally, people celebrate this day so that the power of wisdom can be increased. This festival is also considered to be the king of all seasons. From this day, the spring season is started and is there till Panchami of Krishna Paksha of the falgun month. This festival keeps the importance for those people who are the lovers of art and music and want to increase their knowledge in this area.
According, to the Hindu
mythology it is believed that the Lord Brahma created the world but after the creation he found that there was no sound and no one was talking to each other and life was very dull. After seeing this situation, he brought the goddess Saraswati into existence so that she can make the life existing and can give the sound to the people so that they can interact with each other. The day of Basant Panchami is considered to be the day when the life came into existence and there was happiness everywhere. On this day everything blooms and the trees take the re-birth. The colors and happiness are welcomed on this day and everywhere there is golden color which soothes to eyes. The wheat crop also swings like gold.
On this day people prefer to fly the kites and the kite competition is also kept. In the early morning the girls of age 2 to 10 are called at home and are being offered the meal, the yellow colored sweet rice and then they are worshipped because the little girls are also the image of the goddess. After the Pooja of the goddess the donation is being given to the poor people and unmarried girls. The things made up of yellow color only should be donated because this color increases the auspiciousness of the festival. On this day the knowledge, art, music, peace and happiness of the family members are also enhanced. It is also believed that on this day auspicious work like marriage, construction of the house, or the purchase of the new house or the new educational institution can be started.
