Laxmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity are worshipped in every Indian house during the Diwali Night. This is one of the most important rituals of Diwali. There are so many legends behind celebrating Diwali. These rituals change as we travel across the different places of India. But, the main reason behind the celebration of this festival is triumph of good over the evil creatures. This festival spreads the message of joy, happiness, brotherhood and positivity among the people.
According to the Indian mythology, during Diwali, Lord Rama killed demon ravana after a huge war. Lord Rama then rescued His wife Sita. Lord Rama went on a 14 years exile with his wife and a younger brother, Laxman and when he returned, the people of Ayodha celebrated that by lighting the lamps and also burning the crackers. The sweets were distributed as well. This day was celebrated with joy and lots of happiness was spread on this day. Ravana was a very learned pundit but his mind was polluted which led to his end.
This year in 2014, Diwali Laxmi Puja is going to be celebrated on 23 October 2014, Thursday. This day, the Laxmi Pujan
has great importance. The Hindus believe that Goddess visit the neat and clean places. Therefore, the houses are cleaned before Diwali. Every house is lighted with the earthen lamps in order to welcome the deity. Along with this, beautiful rangolis are made by the ladies of the Indian houses. Also the ladies in the home also prepare sweets and snacks. They make beautiful decorations on the temple. The goddess visits the green lands and the farms on this day. On the dark night where no moon can be seen, in Amavasya, Diwali is celebrated.
The Diwali Pujan is done on this day which creates peaceful environment. The feeling of calmness and joy is enhanced when this puja is performed.
